Volvo FH4 2012 & FH5 2022 v1.0 ETS2

Volvo FH4 2012 & FH5 2022 v1.0 ETS2
The Volvo FH series has undergone significant updates over the years, with the 2012 (FH4) and 2022 (FH5) models representing two key generations. While they share the same core purpose as long-haul trucks, the FH5 builds upon the foundation of the FH4 with a focus on enhanced technology, safety, and driver comfort.
Key Differences Between the FH4 (2012) and FH5 (2022)
The most noticeable changes between these two generations are in the cabin, safety systems, and overall aerodynamics.
Design and Aerodynamics
FH4: The 2012 FH4 was a major redesign that introduced a more modern, streamlined look compared to its predecessors. It focused on improving driver visibility and comfort with a new cab design.
FH5: The 2022 FH5 takes this a step further with an even more aerodynamic design. The front grill is flatter, and there are fewer gaps between panels to reduce air resistance. This leads to better fuel efficiency.
Interior and Technology
FH4: The FH4’s interior was a significant upgrade, featuring an ergonomic dashboard and a multi-function steering wheel. It was a comfortable and functional cabin designed for long hours on the road.
FH5: The FH5 boasts a completely new, fully digital driver interface. The dashboard has a modern, customizable digital display that provides more information in a clearer format. The gear lever has also been redesigned to be more ergonomic.
Safety Features
This is one of the most significant areas of improvement, as safety regulations have become much stricter since 2012.
FH4: The 2012 model came with advanced braking systems, traction control, and electronic stability programs.
FH5: The 2022 FH5 is equipped with a wide range of new safety features that became mandatory for new vehicles in 2022. These include Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Reversing Protection, and a Driver Alert System (DAS). It also uses multiple cameras and radars to detect vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists, providing a higher level of safety for both the driver and others on the road.
Engines and Powertrain
Both generations offer a wide range of powerful and efficient engines, primarily the Volvo D13 and D16 series, with various horsepower options. The I-Shift automated transmission is a core component of both. However, the FH5 includes further refinements to the powertrain for even better fuel economy and performance, such as the I-Save technology which uses turbo-compound engines for improved fuel efficiency.
